We are proud to announce that Harvey Hubball, Business Development, Sports & Events for Tourism Kelowna, has been selected as a finalist for the Canadian Sport Tourism Alliance (CSTA) Sport Tourism Rising Star of the Year Award.
Since joining Tourism Kelowna two short years ago, Harvey has made a substantial impact in Kelowna's sport event landscape. Starting with the creation of the Major Event Strategy, Harvey has generated a list of best-fit events that he has proactively targeted for our community. These events occur in during shoulder seasons, bringing much-needed revenue to our tourism businesses in slower times of the year. In addition to the economic benefits these events generate, they also provide local residents with the opportunity to watch amazing competition and athletes right here in Kelowna and inspire our young athletes to dream of competing at this level one day themselves.
To date, Tourism Kelowna and our partners (City of Kelowna, Prospera Place, Kelowna Curling Club, Kelowna Figure Skating Club, and Kelowna Rockets) have been able to secure three fantastic events for Kelowna: the Winn Rentals World Mixed Curling Championships held in November 2018, the 2019 Skate Canada International taking place in October of this year, and the Mastercard Memorial Cup in May 2020.
The winner of the CSTA Award will be announced in Ottawa this March during the Sport Event Congress; however, the recognition that Harvey is one of the country's brightest rising stars is something to celebrate already.
