Axe-citing Date Night in Kelowna!

Wednesday, March 22, 2017 1:00 PM by Wesla Wong & Duane English

Throughout history, humans have used the axe as a tool for many tasks. Never did we think we would use an axe for a date night activity but here’s a unique way to keep any relationship axe-citing.

Nothing tastes better than fresh, local ingredients so I like to shop at the various local farms, orchards, and markets in Kelowna and area. At this time of year, a great one-stop shop is at the Kelowna Indoor Farmers Market. The Kelowna Outdoor Farmers Market opens April 1st. Several of the below items can be picked up at the Kelowna Farmers’ & Crafters' MarketQuality Greens Farm Market, and Codfathers Seafood Market

Nothing is as delicious as eating fresh, local food - so whenever possible I stop at local farms and orchards to grab my ingredients. In the winter, a great one-stop shop is the Kelowna Farmers’ & Crafters' Market (outdoor market opening April 1, 2017) and Quality Greens (open 7 days / week).

Irish Style Black Emerald Float

Instead of the traditional green beer for St. Paddy's Day, try this delicious Kelowna inspired cocktail.

In Ireland, the locals love their stout on its own or topped up with some Ribena (blackcurrant juice) and often referred to as a "Stout & Black". This Black Emerald Float cocktail is inspired by the later with a Kelowna twist.

Spring is in the air.

For Kelowna’s residents that means a reawakening of activity that sweeps away the winter cobwebs and signals a renewed love affair with the Okanagan outdoors.

Mother Mother Comes To Kelowna

We’re lucky to have a thriving music scene in Kelowna. Not only does that mean that we have a healthy number of high-quality local bands and excellent live music venues, but we also get some big names hitting the stages to entertain local audiences.

In the Okanagan hiking at any time of year can be beautiful, but getting outside to take in the gorgeous snowy vistas of a winter walk in the wilderness can't be beat. Depending on the conditions, a winter hike can be best done with snowshoes or simply good boots. Before the snow melts, get outside and check out a few of my favourite winter trails.

Delicious & Local: Amuse Bouche

Whenever it's possible I stop at local farms and orchards to grab my ingredients. Nothing is as delicious as eating fresh, local produce. One of the great places to pick up fresh local produce is the Kelowna Farmers Winter Market where you can usually purchase delicious local root vegetables such as beets.
