The countdown is officially on for the Kelowna 2019 55+ BC Games. This past Saturday, event organizers held a ceremonial torch lighting in Stuart Park to kick-off the games, which take place September 10-14, 2019.

“Today we acknowledge the tremendous work of so many individuals,” said David Graham, President of the Board of Directors for the Kelowna Host Committee. “While we are kicking things off and counting down the next 80 days to the games start, more than a year of work needs to be recognized to get to this point. Our thanks are given to the volunteers and sponsors who have gotten us here, and a reminder that more than 1000 volunteers are still needed to ensure a successful event.”

Close to 4,000 athletes from across the province will compete in 33 different sports in venues across the city. The games are expected to create more than $3 million in economic impact for our city, according to Mayor Colin Basran.

The 2019 55+ BC Games add to Kelowna’s growing list of hosted sport events. Earlier this year, Kelowna was recognized by the Canadian Sport Tourism Alliance, in partnership with Sportcal, as the top mid-size city (population 50,000 – 150,000) in Canada for sport hosting.

Tourism Kelowna looks forward to supporting the Kelowna 2019 55+ BC Games and to welcoming all the athletes to our city in September.
