Touring the wineries of Kelowna and the surrounding Okanagan is one of the best ways to experience the region’s beauty, flavours, and hospitality. To help you make the most of your visit, here are some tips and etiquette guidelines for a smooth and enjoyable day in wine country.

Before you start touring
  • Plan transportation. Arrange a designated driver or book a guided wine tour. British Columbia has zero tolerance for drinking and driving.
  • Check hours in advance. Many wineries close their tasting rooms 15 minutes before the posted closing time.
  • Make reservations when possible. Some wineries require bookings, while others strongly recommend them. Tasting fees may apply.
  • Bring valid ID. You must be 19+ to taste or purchase wine in British Columbia.
  • Charge your camera or phone. The vineyard views, architecture, and wine presentations are all photo-worthy.
When you arrive
  • Expect tasting fees. These are sometimes refunded with a wine purchase.
  • Supervise children. Wineries are working farms with production areas and busy parking lots. If you bring children, they must be accompanied at all times.
  • Be mindful of others. Keep noise and movement respectful so everyone can enjoy the experience.

Tasting Room Do's
  • Taste at your own pace. Spit or swallow—both are acceptable.
  • Be adventurous. Try each wine offered, even if it is a style you do not usually drink.
  • Ask questions. Staff are knowledgeable about the wines, vineyards, and production process.
Tasting Room Don'ts
  • Avoid wearing fragrance. Strong scents can interfere with tasting.
  • Do not pour your own samples. Let the staff serve each pour.
  • Drink responsibly. Intoxicated behaviour is not acceptable and may result in being asked to leave.
