Emergency Preparedness Week kicks off on May 4 and runs through May 10, 2025. Emergency situations impact local businesses, residents, and visitors, potentially affecting or influencing those travelling or planning a trip to our province or region, so being prepared is vital.
As noted on Destination BC's (DBC) website, BC has a dedicated group of tourism industry and government partners – the Tourism Emergency Management Committee (TEMC) – who work collaboratively to support the safety of visitors, the viability of tourism businesses, and our reputation as a safe and welcoming destination in a provincial or multi-regional emergency preparedness and response.
In alignment with Emergency Preparedness Week, tourism businesses can access resources from DBC that can be used during the week and beyond:
- Emergency Communication Modules.
- Updated Emergency Messaging Guidance for spring/summer 2025.
- Safe Travel Infographics.
- Additional information and resources are available through DBC's website.
The Tourism Industry Association of BC (TIABC) also has a variety of resources available on its website, including:
- The BC Emergency Management Framework.
- Tourism resources from PreparedBC.
- Additional emergency resources.
A reminder that during emergency situations, it's extremely important to only share information from official, reliable sources. You'll also want to ensure your team members have access to these resources and are up-to-date on what's happening so they can keep your customers or guests informed.
