Myra Canyon Trestles in Kelowna | Outdoor Recreation & Sightseeing

Just 24 km (about 40 minutes) from downtown Kelowna, the Myra Canyon section of the Kettle Valley Rail Trail is one of the region’s most popular and scenic outdoor experiences. Designated a National Historic Site, this former railway route features 18 wooden trestle bridges, two rock tunnels, and dramatic canyon views, all accessible by foot, bike, or e-bike.

Trail & Terrain

The gravel path stretches 12 km one way between Myra and Ruth Stations (24 km round trip), with a gentle grade that makes it suitable for most fitness levels and ages. Cyclists typically complete the full ride in 2–3 hours, while hikers can take 3–4 hours at a relaxed pace. Shorter out-and-back options to the first few trestles are great for families and casual visitors.

Season & Access

Open year-round, the trail is most popular from May to October. During these warmer months, bike and e-bike rentals are available at Myra Canyon Bicycle Rentals, along with guided tour options and shuttle service. Winter brings opportunities for snowshoeing and fat biking, but the gravel access road may require a 4x4 vehicle, and amenities are limited.

Safety & Etiquette

If you are biking, yield to hikers and keep to the right on busy days. Be sure to pack water, snacks, sun protection, and an extra layer, temperatures can shift quickly at elevation, and shade is limited along the trail.

Heritage & Wildlife

Originally built in the early 1900s and rebuilt after the 2003 wildfires, the trestles and tunnels offer a glimpse into BC’s railway past. Interpretive signs along the route highlight the railway’s history, construction techniques, and the people who worked on it. Watch for wildlife including birds of prey, deer, and seasonal wildflowers or autumn colours.

Getting There & Facilities

Access the trail from either Myra Station—main entrance (via McCulloch Road and Myra Forest Service Road) or Ruth Station (via June Springs Road). Both trailheads offer parking and pit toilets, but no food or water; come prepared.
