Kelowna in the fall is magical. The city slows down after the rush of summer and you can take your time exploring and enjoying the fall harvest. If you only have a couple of days in Kelowna this fall, don’t worry, you have plenty of time to enjoy all the things that make autumn special. We’ll take you on a tour of apple picking, wine and cider tasting, scenic hikes, and delicious food!

Here’s how to spend a cozy, adventure-filled 48 hours in Kelowna this fall.

Day One of Your Kelowna Fall Itinerary

Morning: Apple Picking and Orchard Adventures in Kelowna

Fall in Kelowna is all about the harvest and there’s no better way to start your 2-day trip than by picking your own fruit. From mid-August through September, you’ll find pears and plums, followed by apple season that stretches all the way into late October.

Local favourites like Paynter’s Fruit Market in West Kelowna and Rose Hill Orchard in Lake Country make it easy to spend a morning wandering through trees and getting a taste of the Okanagan’s famous fruit. There’s nothing quite like biting into fruit that you’ve just picked!

Many orchards also sell extras like fresh-pressed apple and cherry juice, homemade pies, and pumpkins, so plan to visit a little longer before heading off to your next stop.

Afternoon: Fall Wine Tastings, Cideries, and Workshops

From the orchards, it’s time to head over to the wineries and cideries! Fall is harvest season in the Okanagan and wineries across Kelowna celebrate with special tastings, seasonal menus, and creative events. You can enjoy fall-inspired wine and cheese pairings at Arrowleaf Cellars in Lake Country. Their outdoor picnic area with views over Okanagan Lake and the vineyard is beautiful on a crisp autumn afternoon.

Meadow Vista’s honey wines are always fun to try any time of the year, but fall is when their mulled mead really shines. They often host seasonal events too, such as blackberry festivals and s’mores nights around the fire. Over at Priest Creek Winery, you’ll often find fall-inspired craft workshops alongside their tastings. Don’t forget to visit a cidery! SOMA Craft Cidery and Scenic Road Cider both have small-batch ciders that are like fall in a glass. It’s the perfect way to mix a little variety into your afternoon of sipping.

If you’re hungry, enjoy a harvest-inspired lunch at Home Block at CedarCreek or Old Vines Restaurant at Quails’ Gate. Like most winery restaurants in the Okanagan, their menus change with the season, and you can try dishes with local ingredients. Other wineries around Kelowna also have excellent dining, so no matter where you end up, you’ll find fall flavours on the table.

Evening: Cozy Movie Nights in Kelowna and West Kelowna Wineries

As the sun sets, end your first day with one of Kelowna’s most unique fall activities: outdoor movie nights at the wineries! You can curl up with a blanket, sip a glass of Kelowna wine, and watch a movie near the vineyard. In previous years, places like Grizzli Winery, Summerhill Pyramid Winery, and Priest Creek Winery have hosted these seasonal evenings, but the lineup can change each year. Always check in advance to see which wineries are hosting movie nights during your visit so you don’t miss out.

Day Two: More Kelowna Fall Adventures

Morning: Farmers' Markets and Farm Stands in Kelowna

Start your second day by exploring more of Kelowna’s fall harvest. If it’s a Wednesday or Saturday, visit the Kelowna Farmers’ Market and enjoy local apples, pears, pumpkins, and jars of homemade preserves. It’s the best place to stock up on seasonal snacks and you’ll often find hot apple cider or fresh-baked pies.

If you’d rather take the scenic route, skip the market and do a little farm-stand hopping instead. Roads around Southeast Kelowna and Lake Country are lined with small stalls where you can pick up grapes, local apple juice, or even a pumpkin for the road.

Afternoon: Hike to See Golden Larches near Kelowna

Next, it’s time to go larch hunting. While “larch madness” usually makes people think of the Rockies, you don’t have to drive that far because you can also find larches in Kelowna! Myra Canyon comes alive with glowing yellow larches, especially along the higher stretches near the trestles. You can also spot them on the way up to Big White Ski Resort, at the Kelowna Boulderfields, or further out around Oyama Lake and the High Rim Trail

Even a short hike or drive into the hills around Kelowna rewards you with beautiful golden larches. Their colour typically peaks in mid to late October, with the brightest golds appearing around the 20th, just before the needles drop.

Evening: Nut Picking and Lakeside Picnic near Kelowna

End your two-day Kelowna trip with something a little different: nut picking! At Gellatly Nut Farm in West Kelowna, you can gather walnuts, chestnuts, and hazelnuts. It’s a fun, hands-on way to experience the harvest season and you can bring a few home as souvenirs.

On your way back, grab a pizza from Antico Pizza Napoletana, Red Bird Brewing, Jackknife Brewing, or DunnEnzies, then head down to the lake for a picnic. Pair it with the apple juice you picked up earlier, watch the sun set over Okanagan Lake, and you’ve got the perfect fall evening. Just make sure to bring your jacket!

Why Visit Kelowna in the Fall?

Two days in Kelowna in the fall is the perfect amount of time to slow down and soak in the season. Between apple orchards, vineyard harvests, golden larch hikes, and evenings by the lake, you’ll get a real taste of what makes autumn in the Okanagan so special. The season balances adventure with comfort, making it ideal for travellers who want both (and this is why I love it so much!). Whether you’re here for the fruit, the wine, or the crisp air, Kelowna in the fall is always worth the trip.
