Kelowna is made for travellers who love to explore, shop, sample wine, or do some sightseeing at their own pace, no car required. Set against the stunning backdrop of Okanagan Lake and rolling vineyards, the city’s compact layout, walkable neighbourhoods, and well-connected public transit system make it easy — and sustainable — to get around. You’ll find that buses, bikes, and your own two feet are all you need to discover this destination.
Getting Around with Public Transit
Kelowna’s BC Transit network connects major attractions and neighbourhoods across the city, making it easy to travel from downtown to Orchard Park Shopping Centre or from scenic lakefront parks to areas near wine country.
Need a helping hand with your trip planning? Use BC Transit’s online trip planner or the Transit App, which offers real-time bus tracking and route alerts. Regular adult fares are $3.00 per ride, or save with a $6.00 day pass for unlimited travel. Mobile contactless payment options include the Umo electronic fare system. Other contactless payment options continue to be rolled out, including Apple Pay and Google Pay, to help make your journey even smoother.
Car-Free Itineraries & Scenic Stops

You can spend a day exploring the best of Kelowna without getting behind the wheel. Those coming in from the Kelowna International Airport (YLW) will appreciate that the #97, with connection via #23, links to the downtown Queensway Transit exchange; from here, you can transfer to other local routes.
Once you’ve found your way to downtown, enjoy a stroll along the waterfront promenade or visit the Cultural District’s art galleries and cafés. The #1 Lakeshore travels to the Mission neighbourhood, where you can transfer to the #16 and visit Summerhill Pyramid Winery.
For a shopping adventure, take the #97 to Orchard Park Shopping Centre to browse popular shops, or if it is a Wednesday or Saturday, stop at Parkison Station to visit the Kelowna Farmers’ and Crafters’ Market for locally made goodies. If you prefer more active exploring, combine your transit use with some cycling. Ride the bus part of the way, then rent a bike and pedal back along the scenic Mission Creek Greenway or the Okanagan Rail Trail, both of which feature easy connections to transit stops.
Walkable & Bike-Friendly Neighbourhoods

Downtown Kelowna, Pandosy Village, and the Cultural District are among the most pedestrian-friendly areas in the city. Here, shaded streets lined with boutiques, bistros, and public art invite you to slow down and stroll.
Bike racks and e-scooter parking zones are easy to find, and several local companies offer rentals by the hour or day. For longer rides, the Okanagan Rail Trail provides a gentle lakeside route perfect for casual cyclists, while the Mission Creek Greenway provides scenic paths through nature just steps from urban amenities.
