The Thompson Okanagan Tourism Inspiration Centre, owned and operated by the Thompson Okanagan Tourism Association (TOTA), recently reopened after undergoing a major renovation to expand accessibility, deepen partnerships with the Syilx, Nlaka'pamux, and Secwépemc Peoples, and introduce a more welcoming and inclusive experience.

The refreshed design, including a new glass entry pavilion capped with a living roof, elevates the look and feel of the Centre, which is one of the province’s busiest visitor centres and the first stop for travellers arriving in the region via the Hwy 97C (Connector).

This is the moment travellers realize they have arrived in the Thompson Okanagan Region and one of the gateways into the Iconic Valleys and Vineyards.
— Ellen Walker-Matthews, CEO, TOTA

“We wanted that first impression to feel welcoming, accessible and grounded in the stories and people of this place,"  said Ellen Walker-Matthews, CEO of TOTA. "We are proud to continue evolving the Centre to honour the land, the people, and the diverse experiences that make this region so unique. This renovation creates a welcoming experience that reflects the beauty, adventure and culture that the region’s visitors are about to explore.”

The renovation was made possible through funding from multiple partners, including:

  • CleanBC Communities Fund under the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program
  • Province of British Columbia’s Destination Development Fund, administered by the BC Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sports
  • Government of Canada’s Enabling Accessibility Fund - Youth Innovation Component
  • Indigenous Tourism BC
