Destination Canada recently released its Sustainability Storybook, which shares the many sustainability initiatives available for business events across Canada, including one from right here in Kelowna. Metro Centre—comprised of Metro Hub event space and Metro Community outreach centre—is featured in the Sociocultural Stories section of the storybook.

Metro Hub is a unique event space in Kelowna that supports the work of its sister organization, Metro Community, for those experiencing profound poverty, including homelessness. Every event booked at Metro Hub directly supports Metro Community, as a portion of the revenue is dedicated to Metro Community's work, enhancing the lives of people experiencing homelessness.

"The sociocultural impact of Metro Hub is profound. Providing a space where community members can learn, create, and celebrate together strengthens social bonds and encourages a sense of belonging among diverse groups," notes Tourism Kelowna Business Development Sales Manager, Nicolle Gomez de Sousa, in the Sustainability Storybook feature. "The Hub's emphasis on inclusion helps dismantle barriers to cultural participation. Metro Hub plays a pivotal role in promoting understanding and tolerance."

Each sustainability solution in the book is aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs), with Metro Centre aligned explicitly with UN SDGs 1, 4, 10, and 11 in the storybook. The centre's work also aligns with Goal 2 to end hunger, as they serve more than 125 people daily at their onsite cafe.

Visit Destination Canada's website to download the Sustainability Storybook. On pages 42 and 43, you can read the full feature on Metro Centre.
