Kelowna welcomes everyone, with accessible ways to explore the city, enjoy the outdoors, and connect with local culture. From lakeside paths and beaches to dining, wineries, attractions and events, Kelowna continues to grow as an inclusive destination for travellers with diverse mobility, sensory, and cognitive needs.

Many hotels, restaurants, wineries, shops, and attractions in Kelowna offer accessible features, such as step-free entry, accessible washrooms, and designated parking. Several wine tour and boat tour operators can also accommodate guests with mobility challenges. Accessibility features vary by business, so it is always recommended to check details in advance.

People in Motion has developed a comprehensive Accessibility Guide for the region, outlining disability services, dining, parks, accommodations, shopping and activity options across Kelowna and area.

Mobility-Accessible Experiences

Accessible options are available across accommodations, attractions, wineries, guided wine tours and restaurants. Adaptive equipment rentals are also available locally. Advanced Mobility Products provides scooters, manual and power wheelchairs, walkers and other mobility supports from its Kelowna location.

Accessible Transportation & Getting Around

Many major car rental companies, such as Budget Car & Truck Rental, offer adaptive driving devices with advance notice at no additional charge. HandyDART provides door-to-door shared transit for people with permanent or temporary disabilities.

Kelowna’s network of paved and surfaced pathways makes exploring easier, including the downtown Downtown Kelowna Waterfront Promenade and a 14-kilometre stretch of the Okanagan Rail Trail connecting downtown to the Kelowna International Airport. Nearby communities also feature accessible waterfront infrastructure, such as the Ray Kandola Heritage Pier in Peachland.

Get Active, Your Way

Local organizations are helping break down barriers to outdoor recreation. CRIS Adaptive supports adaptive adventures year-round, from hiking and cycling to paddling, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. In partnership with Elevation Outdoors, Kelowna Bike Rentals offers adaptable bikes alongside e-bikes, cruisers and tandem options in downtown Kelowna.

Recreation facilities such as the H2O Adventure + Fitness Centre and Parkinson Recreation Centre welcome guests with diverse abilities. In winter, visitors can participate in adaptive ski and snowboard lessons at Big White Ski Resort through Powderhounds Adaptive Snow Sports.

Autism Travel Resources

Kelowna International Airport (YLW) partners with Canucks Autism Network and Vancouver International Airport to provide travel resource kits for individuals and families living with autism. These resources support trip preparation, including check-in, security screening, boarding and flying. Kits are available at the airport information kiosk, with digital versions available online.
