Set in the heart of Okanagan Wine Country in British Columbia, Canada, 50th Parallel Estate is a majestic 61 acre site near the shores of Lake Okanagan. It is only 15 minutes from Kelowna International Airport and a mere 8 minute drive to world-class destinations, Predator Ridge Golf Resort and Sparkling Hill Spa.
With unmatched geography, the southwest sloping site enjoys long days boosted by lake reflectivity. Bright, dry, and frost-free, it has natural geological properties with rare, red granite sand and soil. Our winemaker is very excited to see such similar soils to some great Alsatian vineyards, and the exclamation point of a dry low pressure growing environment holds some outstanding vintages ahead.
Pinot Noir will make up nearly 40% of the Estate Vineyard planting, with Riesling, Pinot Gris, and Gewurztraminer balancing the vineyard blocks planted in unison with the undulating natural topography.
Grant Stanley is a dual citizen of Canada and New Zealand, where he began his career working in the vineyards of Marlborough. Equipped with diplomas in viticulture and winemaking from Nelson Marlborough Institute of technology he moved to the north island where he became a willing and humble slave to the high priests of Pinot Noir in Martinborough. His A-type personality soon led him to become compulsive, obsessive and devoted to Pinot Noir. In 2003, after 15 vintages with prestigious wineries in New Zealand and Oregon’s Willamette valley he was attracted to the incredible potential for growing and making high quality Pinot Noir in the Okanagan Valley. Grant left his New Zealand home and became the head of the viticulture and winemaking team at Quails Gate Winery for 10 years, making wine with a passionate heart and racking up countless international accolades for his masterful vintages. Grant now joins the 50th Parallel Management Team to complete the perfect pairing of place and people.
