Tourism Kelowna is once again celebrating National Volunteer Week (NVW), which runs from April 19–25, 2026 and this year, falls within the International Year of Volunteers (IYV). This year's NVW theme, Ignite Volunteerism, aligns with IYV as a "year-long effort to elevate the role of civic participation, rebuild volunteer infrastructure, and celebrate volunteer stories."

Our organization is fortunate and proud to have a dedicated group of 43 Community Specialist volunteers and 18 Board of Director volunteers. Our Board of Directors, composed of experienced industry members, generously donate their time and expertise to support our region's robust, well-connected tourism community, while our Community Specialist volunteers share their knowledge, skills, and welcoming presence with guests.

In 2025, our team of friendly Community Specialist volunteers contributed approximately 2,500 hours to our organization through their efforts at the Kelowna Visitor Centre, our Kelowna International Airport Kiosk, and mobile visitor centre activities. While our airport kiosk has been closed since mid-June for the terminal building expansion, our volunteers have continued to deliver mobile visitor services at major events like the Montana's Brier, CCMA Country Music Week, and the Olympic Qualifiers at the Kelowna Curling Club, as well as at community events like Kelowna Pride Festival, Kelown Ribfest, and Argus Apple Triathlon.

Reflecting this year’s Ignite Volunteerism theme, and grounded in Tourism Kelowna’s values, the impact of our volunteers shines brightly across every visitor experience. Their energy sparks connection in meaningful ways, from the first warm welcome to the stories they share and the care they extend. These moments ripple outward, creating a sense of belonging that extends beyond their visit. Through their hard work and dedication, our volunteers help ignite a vibrant, welcoming community where people—both visitors and residents—feel truly connected.

To celebrate National Volunteer Week this year and thank our team, we will be hosting several events throughout the week:

As I head into my second year of overseeing the Community & Visitor Engagement volunteer team, I’ve come to appreciate how much they contribute to everything we do. Their passion and care for the community are reflected in how they show up when representing our organization, whether at community events, in the Kelowna Visitor Centre, or on familiarization tours. I’ve learned so much from each of them, especially through their local knowledge and their ability to connect so easily with both visitors and locals. They truly make a difference and are such a big part of what makes our organization so successful.
