More than a dozen businesses and organizations in the Southern Interior, including a few here in the Central Okanagan, are set to receive more than $2 million in funding from Pacific Economic Development Canada through the Tourism Growth Program, a key component of the Federal Tourism Growth Strategy, which charts a course for long-term growth, investment, and stability in Canada’s tourism industry.

The funding announcement was made on January 22 by the Honourable Harjit S. Sajjan, Minister of Emergency Preparedness and Minister responsible for the Pacific Economic Development Agency of Canada.

The following businesses and organizations in the Central Okanagan are included in the list of recipients:

  • Indigenous-owned Niche Wine Company will receive $240,000 to transform its winery in the City of West Kelowna into a vibrant micro-resort and agritourism destination.
  • The City of Kelowna will receive $174,000 to expand air service at Kelowna International Airport - YLW and promote travel during the shoulder season.
  • ZipZone Peachland will receive $130,000 to enhance its zipline experience and climbing wall to facilitate larger groups.

“We’re incredibly excited to partner with PacifiCan to bring our vision of mountain-top luxury accommodations to life in West Kelowna," says Niche Wine Company CEO, Joanna Schlosser.
