Tourism Kelowna successfully launched its new mobile public art display on December 2 at the Downtown Kelowna Winter Street Market & Light Up.

“We have been waiting for the right moment to launch this new public display and could not be more excited that it happened during this weekend's light-up event," says Chris Lewis, Director of Destination Development with Tourism Kelowna. "Throughout the year, the display will be set up in locations with high foot traffic and at community events in and around Kelowna."

Kelowna Public Art Display

The purpose of the "Kelowna" mobile art display is to activate public spaces and events within the Central Okanagan, providing a gathering spot for locals and visitors to meet and take photos. Cities across Canada and worldwide have set up permanent displays showcasing their community's name; however, for this particular project, Tourism Kelowna wanted to create a sign that could be transported to events or set up in public space for predetermined amounts of time, expanding its reach.

Funding for this project was provided in part by the Government of Canada's Tourism Relief Fund. Tourism Kelowna's team is currently working with various community partners, including the City of Kelowna, to determine an activation schedule for 2024.
