Residents of Kelowna and the Central Okanagan play an important role in destination marketing, and we want to hear from you again as we plan our upcoming marketing activities. Following our first survey, sent out at the beginning of June, and as we look towards fall, a season that would typically see just over half the number of visitors than summer, we want to know your thoughts about welcoming visitors and travellers to our city and area. British Columbia remains in Phase 3 of our restart plan and safe and responsible travel is permitted. Our restart takes the guidance and orders from provincial health leaders very seriously. The health and safety of residents and visitors remains a top priority. Local businesses have put additional COVID-19 measures in place to protect guests and staff, and Tourism Kelowna continues to provide information on ways to explore Kelowna safely.
Tourism is an important part of our local economy. Each year, over 1.8 million overnight visitors spend over $337 million at local businesses. Overall, tourism is a $1.25 billion industry locally, responsible for approximately 12,000 jobs and contributes to our overall quality of life.
