Kelowna For Foodies

The bountiful Okanagan Valley creates an atmosphere of creativity for chefs, farmers, producers, wine makers and more. By working together and tapping into fresh, local ingredients the foodie culture in Kelowna is fully alive and sprouting new ideas and businesses regularly. If you’re interested in food, below are three jam-packed food days. Extend your visit to explore even more. 

Day 1

Grab a coffee at Sandrine’s and chat over scrumptious French pastries and macaroons before heading over to the Kelowna Farmer’s Market. All vendors serve locally produced goods ranging from salad dressings to fresh fruit to home baked bread to organically raised and processed meats.

After loading up on goodies, head to Knox Mountain for a hike or the Myra Canyon Trestles for a bike ride. While on the trail have a picnic while overlooking Okanagan Lake and the city of Kelowna. Upon your return to town, don’t miss out on a drive through the hills of south east Kelowna with stops at Arion Therapeutic Farm, WiseAcre Craft Distillery at Caldwell Heritage Farm, Meadow Vista Honey Wines, and Tantulus Vineyards.

Cap off the day with a stroll along the boardwalk in downtown Kelowna before grabbing dinner at Salt & Brick, Raudz or Waterfront Wines.

Day 2

Start your day with coffee from local roaster, Bright Jenny, then head over to Karat for the most scrumptious and delectable chocolates and treats. With your coffee and treats in hand, wander downtown Kelowna to City Park or Kasugai Gardens. A stop at the Kelowna Visitor Centre will have you browsing plenty of locally made art, gifts and apparel.

After your exploration downtown, head to the Landmark District. Here it will be hard to decide where to start and when to stop! Frankie, We Salute You specializes in vegan fare that will convince any carnivore that meat free dishes are just as delicious. Start Fresh Kitchen is a social enterprise that regularly partners with other local businesses for lunch specials, pizza nights and cooking classes while supporting those in the community that normally wouldn't have the means to learn to cook and be part of a working kitchen to get jobs. QB Gelato is one of the 2% of gelaterias making every single product from scratch, using real and raw ingredients. And, don’t think it’s just the cool treats available, they have a killer mac & cheese, as well as pastries, cookies and soups.  If you need to wet your whistle, a stop at one of the newer breweries in Kelowna may be in order. Copper Brewing has 20 rotating taps featuring their own beer, as well as others from surrounding breweries and cideries.

Work off some of the calories with a bike ride along the Okanagan Rail Trail, rentals are available at Pedego in Oyama or a hike to the top of Spion Kop Trail in Lake Country. If you need another treat, Pane Vino Pizzeria, the treat counter at Arrowleaf Cellars or the Garden Bistro at O’Rourke’s Peak Cellars are all great options.

End your day with an evening in West Kelowna at Indigenous World Winery. A dinner at Red Fox Club features First Nations inspired dishes using local ingredients, many of which come straight from Chef Andrea Callan’s own garden, perfectly paired with the wines made on site.

Day 3

For breakfast dive into the delicious eats at Sunny’s Modern Diner for homemade comfort food, Krafty Kitchen for brunch bowls or bike along Abbott Street to Waterfront Café for brunch options, caffeinated beverages, and pastries.

In the afternoon, travel south through Pandosy and stop for Mexican eats at Hector’s Casa or Kibok. Visit KB & Co for meat, dairy and soy free snacks and drinks, or stop in at Shoreline Brewing across from Boyce Gyro Beach. Then, continuing south, visit Carmelis Goat Cheese to sample a variety of specialty cheese and gelato, made from, you guessed it – goats milk!  While along Lakeshore, don’t miss a tasting at CedarCreek, St. Hubertus, or Summerhill Pyramid Winery. If you’re looking for another meal, you can’t go wrong with the simple, but modern approach to food at Home Block or the fresh dishes at Summerhill Bistro.

For the evening, take a drive along Boucherie Road. You can stop in at Grizzli, Quails’ Gate, the hatch, and many more for tastings, but end your day at Mt. Boucherie Wineries’ new restaurant The Modest Butcher.  It’s the newest winery restaurant in the area, and as the name suggests, features deliciously modest dishes, including vegetarian options.
