Tourism and business delegates from Kelowna and around the Okanagan-Similkameen gathered in Whitehorse over the weekend in support of the new direct flight from Whitehorse to Kelowna recently launched by Air North. The delegation, whose itinerary was coordinated in a joint effort between Air North and the Kelowna International Airport, met with members of the Whitehorse tourism and business community to explore opportunities and marketing synergies between the 2 destinations. It was an honour for me to represent Tourism Kelowna as part of the delegation, and to have the opportunity to introduce our destination and an overview of how we market Kelowna to the business leaders in attendance at the Whitehorse Chamber of Commerce lunch reception on Friday, June 21.

Meetings over the course of the visit included a marketing strategy session at the offices of Tourism Yukon with attendance by City of Whitehorse staff and key local tourism industry stakeholders, a meet & greet with the Whitehorse business community at the MacBride Museum, a consumer marketing “Grape Stomp” at the Midnight Sun Golf Tournament, meetings with Air North executives, and a variety of networking and relationship building opportunities.

As shown in the image above, the new route is being heavily promoted in Whitehorse, including at the Air North check-in counter (this is also where passengers check-in for flights to Frankfurt on Condor). The route is currently scheduled to operate as a seasonal route through the fall.
