On Thursday, June 27, Indigenous Tourism BC (ITBC) and Westbank First Nation (WFN) will be hosting a workshop titled “The Value of Tourism.”

Held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., the workshop is designed for community members, entrepreneurs, and staff who are interested in learning more about the growing opportunities available in the Indigenous tourism sector.

During the workshop, attendees will have the opportunity to:

  • Explore what tourism business best suits their skills, interests, and experience.
  • Learn more about Indigenous tourism and why visitors come to the Thompson Okanagan.
  • Meet with Indigenous tourism industry leaders from ITBC, TOTA, and ITAC.
  • Examine community tourism resources and consider ways to plan for and manage them.

A facilitated discussion of the local Indigenous cultural tourism opportunities will be held with the participants, including best practices and elements that should be considered.

Thanks to sponsorship from Tourism Kelowna, City of West Kelowna, and Central Okanagan Economic Development Commission, all attendees will also be entered to receive free registration ($800 value) to the International Indigenous Tourism Conference, taking place in Kelowna November 12-14, 2019.
