Tourism Kelowna’s Travel Media Relations team met with media from across the U.S. at the recent Canada Media Marketplace event.

Tourism Kelowna’s travel media relations team met with 43 media in 12-minute one-on-one appointments, as well as several others over the course of the 2 day Canada Media Marketplace event put on by the Canadian Tourism Commission. There were 132 appointment-taking media in attendance at the event held in New York earlier this week (April 20 – 22), representing publications from the U.S. and Canada. Tourism marketers from across Canada had the opportunity to meet one-on-one with media at the marketplace in order to pitch destination stories, as well as networking at events outside of the marketplace.

Our team researched the interests of each journalist on our schedule and prepared customized pitches about Kelowna and the Okanagan for the appointments. From here, detailed follow-ups will lead to hosting travel writers in Kelowna for stories in key travel publications. Last year, travel stories on Kelowna in the San Francisco Chronicle, Sing Tao Daily, San Francisco Examiner, EDGE media network, Examiner.com, and other publications ran as a result of attendance at Canada Media Marketplace, just to name a few. Travel media shows such as this one are a key tactic for our media relations initiatives and allow us to meet and build relationships with travel media to help us promote Kelowna as a vacation destination and leverage our marketing dollars.
