The Tourism Industry Association of BC (TIABC) Governance Committee is seeking qualified individuals for the 2025-2027 term who are dedicated to the success of the association and will support its objectives as members of TIABC's Board of Directors. Acceptance of nominations is based on a specific set of skills and experience.
Eligible candidates must demonstrate specific experience in the following areas:
- Tourism Industry Knowledge: Applicant must have an understanding and familiarity with the structure of tourism in BC: tourism sectors, tourism & hospitality public policy, provincial, regional and community destination marketing organizations, government, Indigenous tourism & sector associations (fishing, ski, golf, etc.).
- Technical & Business Expertise: Senior leadership, finance, communications, government relations, HR management, information technology, legal, innovation, marketing/sales, operations, stakeholder engagement, strategic planning, and sustainable practices.
- Governance Competencies: Previous experience as a chair, director or member on a board, council, association or committee specific to a policy board, not a working board. Understanding of a non-profit society structure is also an asset.
- Education and Training: Applicant has achieved various levels of education and training that are important to advancing the goals of the association and include, but not limited to, post-secondary degrees (e.g. MA, MBA), CPA designation, training in diversity, equity and inclusion, customer service, FoodSafe, and other certifications (e.g. Safer Spaces).
The Board of Directors is made up of a maximum of 13 directors consisting of 11 directors elected by active members, plus the Chair and Past-chair. TIABC is seeking a total of four (4) candidates for the 2025-2027 term:
- From the Sector Association category two, (2) positions are required for a two-year term.
- From the Business Membership category, two (2) positions are required for a two-year term.
Board composition strives for 50% gender parity and 30% representation of other underrepresented groups, including Indigenous peoples, racialized persons, people with disabilities, and members of the 2SLGBTQAI+ community.
If you are a TIABC member in good standing, have a strong understanding of the tourism industry, significant expertise and industry knowledge, and are a senior executive (e.g. CEO, GM, ED), currently involved in tourism or destination management, you are invited to apply. As per the bylaws, the Tourism Industry Association of BC requests that all nominations from members be received 45 days prior to the Annual General Meeting.
