Last week, the Canadian Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (CGLCC) held its annual business summit; however, this year things were a bit different, as the summit was held virtually.
While I attended the event in person last year, this was the first virtual conference I’ve attended here in Toronto since COVID-19. The theme of the conference was ‘The Power of Connection’ and the organizers made sure the 800 attendees—joining from more than 20 countries—had numerous chances to connect over the five-day summit. During the course of the summit, I had the opportunity to hear several speakers, check out the virtual exhibit hall, and attend a Zoom cocktail hour. I was also able to connect and continue building relationships with clients such as BMO, Sun Life Insurance, TD Bank, Royal Bank, Kellogg’s, and Staples.
The organizers did an amazing job, making it a worthwhile experience for those attending. It also allowed us to provide further exposure for Kelowna to this key market in Toronto, not only through the networking opportunities but also by having Kelowna included as part of the attendee list. We will continue to further our connection with CGLCC, with the goal of hosting a regional meeting, and perhaps the LGBT+ Business Summit itself, at some point in the future.
