Nearly 1,400 Indigenous youth athletes from across British Columbia will travel to Kelowna next month for the 2020 Jr. All Native Basketball Tournament (JANT). Recently held in Kitimat (2019) and Vancouver (2018), Tourism Kelowna is proud to support Syilx Basketball in bringing the tournament to Kelowna. JANT is BC’s largest youth basketball tournament and promotes wellness, sportsmanship, leadership, and Nation Pride amongst First Nations youth.
The influx of athletes, coaches, families, and fans means increased visitation to Kelowna during what is typically a quieter tourism season. While each team will play at least three games at venues throughout Kelowna and Westbank First Nation, they will have plenty of time to explore and experience Kelowna during their stay. The tournament will welcome over 2,500 visitors, generating significant hotel room nights, restaurant patronage, and retail spending. We invite all members of the Kelowna community to join us in extending a warm welcome to these visitors.
Opening ceremonies take place on Sunday, March 15, 2020, at the University of British Columbia Okanagan, with tournament play running March 16–20. The five-day event also includes an evening social and career fair.
