Earlier this week, Tourism Kelowna presented the Tourism Kelowna Sport Hosting Award to Joachim Nierfeld and the Kelowna Futures Tennis Men's Pro Tennis Tournament. Awarded at the annual Community Sport Hero Awards, Mayor Colin Basran joined Sport and Event Sales Manager, Harvey Hubball, to recognize the tournament as 2017's premier event that raised Kelowna's profile as a sport destination.

Heading into its seventh year, the Kelowna Futures Tennis tournament has consistently been one of Kelowna’s top events in our hosting calendar. Tournament Chairman, Joachim Nierfeld, has grown this non-profit event to become one of the premier International Tennis Federation (ITF) stops in all of North America. One of only eight ITF events held in Canada, the 2017 event was the largest to date, attracting over 3000 fans. The addition of shaded courtside seating and a new liquor license provided the best experience to date as well.

By recognizing individuals and clubs in their efforts to attract, bid, and secure events, Tourism Kelowna can further encourage others to think big and work with us to help enhance Kelowna’s profile as a premier sports destination.
