As we look ahead to fall, we thought it would be a good opportunity to showcase some of the award wins bestowed on local tourism industry businesses over the course of the 2020.  

Agri-tourism

Earlier this year, the Kelowna Farmers’ and Crafters’ Market was recognized as Farmers’ Market of the Year (Large) at the 2020 BC Farmers’ Market Conference.

Health & Beauty

Okanagan Lavender & Herb Farm’s “Nomad” Lip Balm and Sensitive Skin Face Serum both claimed third place in their respective categories in the 2020 Clean Beauty Awards.  

Industry

TripAdvisor recently released its 2020 Travelers’ Choice Awards, which sees the company going through “reviews, ratings, and saves from travelers everywhere…to award the very best.

Both A Touch of English Bed & Breakfast and A View of the Lake B&B were recognized in the Best of the Best Top 25 B&Bs and Inns in Canada, taking home the 11th and 14th spots respectively.

Fairfield by Marriott KelownaFour Points by Sheraton Kelowna Airport, Myra Canyon Bike Rentals and Tours, Smile Cycle Tours, and The Vibrant Vine were also recognized for being in the top 10% of their respective categories worldwide.

Spirits

Earlier this year, Okanagan Spirits Craft Distillery took home nine Gold medals, four Silver medals, and one Bronze medal at the 2020 World Spirits Awards in Austria. They were also named ‘Distillery of the Year’ in recognition of their whiskies sweeping the podium with five Gold medals in five different whiskey categories.

Wine

The All Canadian Wine Championships 2020 results were recently announced, with CedarCreek Estate Winery winning Double Gold for its 2018 Chardonnay (Chardonnay Under $20). Mission Hill Family Estate took home a total of 11 awards, including five Gold, four Silver, and two bronze. Other Gold medal winners were: Frind Estate Winery; Mt. Boucherie Estate Winery (who also took home a Bronze); SpearHead Winery (who also took home a Silver and a Bronze); and the hatch (who also took home two Bronze medals). O’Rourke’s Peak Cellars was awarded one Silver and one Bronze medal, while Grizzli Winery was awarded one Silver medal. Also recently announced were the winners of the International Wine and Spirits Competition. 50th Parallel Estate Winery was the Central Okanagan’s only Gold medal-winner for its 2018 Chardonnay; the winery was also awarded five bronze medals. Numerous Silver and Bronze awards were handed out to Central Okanagan wineries: CedarCreek Estate Winery; Fitzpatrick Family Vineyards; Gray Monk Estate Winery; Grizzli Winery; Indigenous World Winery; Mission Hill Family Estate; Mt. Boucherie Family Estate; O’ Rourke’s Peak Cellars; Quails’ Gate Estate Winery; and Sandhill Winery all took home medals.
