This career retrospective features over sixty prints by renowned artist Takao Tanabe. Tanabe is among Canada’s most celebrated painters and printmakers, recognized for his emotive landscapes that bridge the gap between abstraction and realism. Visitors can view the artist’s signature west coast prints with big brooding skies and island silhouettes, like Malacca Strait: Dawn (2004), a woodcut/intaglio print that utilizes form and colour to depict a stillness between ocean and land. Loaned from the Vancouver Art Gallery and the Winnipeg Art Gallery collections, many works in this exhibition have never been exhibited until now. Takao Tanabe: Printmaker runs until October 1, 2023.
