Everything’s coming up Roooosés! It is springtime in wine country and that means new wine releases. Pink is the new white here in our wine world and with most of our BC wineries now offering a Rosé in their repertoire, we are in the pink. Whether it be sparkling or still, Rosé wine just seems to pair perfectly with life. A go-to for sunny patio days, or a happy choice for rainy inside days, Rosé has become that flexible wine choice that pairs beautifully with all kinds of cuisine.
Here in the Kelowna area, we have so many beautiful (and award-winning) Rosés to pick from. Check out these six so very sippable new Rosé releases:
Quails’ Gate Rosé
Quails’ Gate Winery in West Kelowna is a destination. Pioneers in our winemaking industry, the Stewart family is well known for creating award-winning wines including fabulous rosé perfect for sipping on their gorgeous lakeview patio at their award-winning Old Vines Restaurant on site.
2022 Vintage Notes: A blend of Gamay and Pinot Noir, this vintage opens with bright aromas of raspberry, strawberry, and rhubarb. On the palate, vibrant, fruit-forward flavours of red berry and tangerine are followed by a refreshing, crisp finish.
Arrowleaf Rosé
Arrowleaf Cellars is one of those special surprises while wine touring in Lake Country. Small, family-owned and operated, the wines are affordable and easy drinking…and then there is the view…The winery is glamorously perched above Okanagan Lake with gasp-worthy views.
2022 Vintage Notes: The bouquet has aromas of kiwi and watermelon and subtle notes of peony and rose petals. On the palate, it is rich and harmonious with a long finish.
The View Pink Rhino
The View Winery is located on the Turton family’s heritage orchard property in Southeast Kelowna. Owner Jennifer Turton Molgat is well known for her love of rosé wine and here they offer pink in every form! From sparkling and still, to a pink blend in a can, they have all you could want in every blushing hue.
2022 Vintage Notes: A blend of their trademark Pinotage 85%, Pinot Noir 13%, and Riesling 2%. The only one of its kind in North America, Pinotage Rosé boasts intense aromatics of strawberry and cotton candy followed by flavours of pink grapefruit and tart cranberry. Made in the Provence style, it is dry, crisp and elegant. This pink also has a wonderful charity behind it supporting the endangered Rhinos in South Africa.
Mt. Boucherie Rosé
Mt. Boucherie Winery sits on the eastern shadow of the former volcano. How cool is that? They also had an awesome makeover that transformed this modest winery into a super chic, concrete work of art. They also have a highly-rated restaurant called The Modest Butcher on site that specializes in amazing steak.
2022 Vintage Notes: A Field Blend of their estate Pinot Noir, Gewürztraminer& Zweigelt, this mouth-watering rosé has aromas and flavours of watermelon, raspberry, and citrus blossom. Bright and eminently refreshing, it pairs wonderfully with charcuterie, summer salads, and patios.
Mission Hill Reserve Rosé Organic
Mission Hill Family Estate is the crowning glory and the original winery of the ever-growing von Mandl empire. Proprietor Anthony von Mandl owns several BC wineries with each vineyard certified or in the process of becoming certified organic (bravo).
2022 Vintage Notes: Crisp and vibrant, showcasing characteristics of strawberry, watermelon and rhubarb on the nose and palate.
Kitsch Pinot Noir Rosé
Kitsch Wines is housed in the back of an actual house (actually, it is more like a mansion) located in the orchard rich neighbourhood of East Kelowna. Family-owned and operated; this little winery has created a lot of buzz for Southeast Kelowna’s distinct wine region.
2022 Vintage Notes: The wine is bright with fruit, yet deliciously dry and finishes with salinity. Made from the 2020 Pinot Noir vines grown on their estate.
