Kenny Tai has been photographing food and posting his delicious findings to his Instagram account, @HeyHangryHippo, for many years now and this week he turns his focus to the Lower Mission and Pandosy area of Kelowna. Read on to find out more about some of the delicious offerings, who knows you may find a new favourite!

With current provincial health orders prohibiting indoor dining, restaurants have adjusted their operations focusing on outdoor patio dining, take-out, and delivery. Please note: people should only be outdoor dining at restaurants with their household or core bubble and restaurants only accommodate tables of six or less.

Broken Anchor

Conveniently located and hard to miss due to the many colourful picnic tables out front, Broken Anchor is on Gordon Drive and is attached to Kelowna's well-known seafood market, Codfathers. Focused on crafting delicious dishes using 100% sustainably sourced seafood, Broken Anchor has a variety of dishes on their menu including fish tacos, but their fish and chips are super popular. A good portion size, plus always gluten-free, the fish and chips are crispy and paired with house-made tartar sauce, slaw, and Kennebec potato fries. Choose from West Coast Halibut, Wild Pacific Cod, or BC Wild Salmon—you won't go wrong with any option.

Broken Anchor is currently open with several picnic tables safely spaced out, plus takeaway is available.

Diner Deluxe

Located directly across from Boyce Gyro Beach on Lakeshore Drive, Diner Deluxe specializes in breakfast and brunch, 7 days a week. Using local and sustainable ingredients, they focus on quality meals for the whole family including lil' lunch for kids and mimosa kits for the adults! With lots of exciting options on the menu, it was hard to narrow down my favourite, but the Fried Chicken & Waffles won my heart. It's buttermilk marinated fried chicken breast on top of a jalapeno-cheddar waffle with a sunny side egg, honey drizzle, hot sauce, AND maple brown butter—a taste explosion!

Currently open with a small patio, as well as takeaway available.

Lakeside Dining at Eldorado Resort

Time spent on the patio, right on the water's edge, at Eldorado Resort is the best. Full stop. Day or night, the views are amazing, service is out of this world, and the food and drinks are top-notch. Plan a visit at Happy Hour for $5 house wine and $10 feature cocktails, then stay for a meal. My favourite dish is the Eldorado's Chili Chicken. I'm always up for fusion dishes and this appetizer had the perfect amount of chilli sauce paired with the crispy chicken pieces. You also can't go wrong with the Margherita flatbread, it's a classic and perfect for sharing (once it's safe to share again).

The awesome patio at Lakeside Dining is open and ready to welcome you. They also offer take-out.

Rich Tea

Rich Tea is the only place in Kelowna that offers a Chinese Bakery, Bubble Waffles, and Mille Crepe Cake all under one roof. Being Chinese, I was so excited when I heard they were opening in town! They have all my favourite childhood treats on their menu and my favourite has got to be the Rainbow Mille Crepe Cake, it's just as good as the photos suggest, you've got to try it! Other favourites of mine are the BBQ pork buns, egg tarts, and Bubble Waffles, which are classic treats in Hong Kong (they are only available at Rich Tea on Wednesdays). Also, don't miss their bubble teas made with fresh fruit like strawberry, mango, and durian. Seriously, you can't go wrong with anything on the menu, I'm so excited they are in town.

Take-out is currently available. Run, don't walk, to get there before the end of the day to get everything while it's fresh!

T-One Restaurant

Originating from Taipei, Taiwan, the owner/operators at T-One (short for "Taiwan One") are bringing their A-game with their Asian fusion dishes. Also located right across from Boyce-Gyro Beach, T-One is a great place to grab takeaway and enjoy a picnic while watching the sun go down (or any other time of day). My favourite dish that I'll be enjoying several times this spring and summer is the Cold Ramen. It's got ramen noodles, shredded chicken, corn, cucumber, carrots, bean sprouts, all topped with a delicious Asian peanut sauce. So good, and a nice change from traditional hot ramen.

Currently, T-One is open for take-out or delivery with NinjaNow.
