Over the past number of weeks, we've all had to adjust our daily routines as we stay home to help flatten the curve. Staying positive, having fun, and keeping fit are all important for our physical and mental health, so we've rounded up a few more ways for you to focus on your wellness while staying socially distanced.

It can be easy to get in a rut when it comes to our fitness goals, especially when we can't meet up with our workout buddies or connect with our favourite trainers in person. In addition to those we mentioned in our first health and wellness post, here are some more options to make staying active easier than ever:

  • Complete Core Pilates: This boutique pilates studio, which has been operating in Kelowna for 10 years, went virtual within 2 days after the pandemic started. Offers small, customized group classes.
  • Move Daily Fitness: Tracy Steen has been posting workouts on the Move Daily Fitness YouTube channel for several years. Videos are posted every Monday and Wednesday but can be watched whenever it’s convenient for your schedule.
  • Simply Corefit: If you’re looking to work on your deep core muscles, these are the workouts for you. You can subscribe to unlimited classes—which are being filmed outdoors at beautiful locations in and around Kelowna—for $35 per month.
  • TWP Fitness: This family-owned and operated women’s fitness facility has been offering their fitness classes virtually through Facebook and Instagram Live for free. There are multiple classes per day including cardio, strength, HIIT, and more.

Exploring Outdoors

Getting outside for some fresh air is encouraged, so long as you maintain physical distance from those outside your household. For those in Kelowna, there are ample ways to get outside and explore.

While provincial parks remain closed, all regional parks remain open for walking, hiking or biking, with restrictions in place to help maintain adequate social distancing. Mission Creek Greenway, Okanagan Rail Trail, or the downtown Kelowna boardwalk are good options for those looking for a casual stroll. If you want to hike, check out Goats Peak, Rose Valley, or Scenic Canyon Regional Parks.

Want to speed things up? Hop on your bike and cruise around the numerous pathways that run through the city. No bike? No problem! Okanagan E-Kruise is currently offering daily and weekly rentals of their e-bikes—which are sanitized and can be delivered to your door in Kelowna—meaning you can tackle area hills with ease.

After you’ve finished the active part of your day, why not relax a little by planning yourself an at-home spa day? There are numerous local spots where you can order products to pamper yourself including Okanagan Lavender & Herb Farm, O Spa Health & Wellness Centre, and Meadow Vista Honey Wines. Once you’ve picked out the perfect pampering products, settle in with your favourite book—or find a new favourite from Mosaic Books, who is offering curbside pickup—light some candles, make a cup of tea (or pour a glass of sparkling, depending on what you’re in the mood for!), and get ready to relax.
