On Saturday, February 23, Global Music Fest takes over Creekside Theatre (10241 Bottom Wood Lake Road, Lake Country), and you don’t want to miss it!

The event is part of Global Citizen Kelowna. A month-long initiative, Global Citizen “promotes the UN Sustainable Development Goals and celebrates the impact Okanagan citizens have in global and local humanitarian efforts,” with the ultimate mission being to “entertain, educate and inspire to action.”

Whether you’re visiting or you’re a local, if you attend Global Music Fest you can expect that ultimate mission to be accomplished. The music starts with the Okanagan’s very own Mountain Sound. If the band is new to you, whatever notions the name Mountain Sound conjures in your mind, you’re probably way off.

This band produces mesmerizing, heavy, neo-soul hip hop. Featuring cello, piano, percussion, and powerful vocals, you really have to witness them in action to get a true understanding of what they’re all about.

Mountain Sound recently performed at Fireside Festival in Kelowna, and they impressed many with a virtuoso performance that nearly blew the roof off of BNA Brewing. The video below will give you a taste of what they’re like in action, but for the full experience, you need to catch them in person.

Following Mountain Sound, Cristian De La Luna and his band will be bringing their award-winning Latin music back to the area. De La Luna - originally from Columbia, but now living in Edmonton - was in Kelowna for BreakOut West 2018 and impressed local audiences. Not only is he a nice dude, but he and his band make great sounds, too.

In addition to the music, there will be “cultural and globally-minded activities” held in the foyer during the evening. Global Music Fest runs from 6:30 - 10 p.m. on February 23, 2019. Tickets are $26 (including taxes and fees) and can be purchased here.
