‘Tis the season to make merry and the very best way of getting your merry on is with a glass of local bubbly! Here in our Okanagan wine world we have a huge array of local wineries now making sparkling wine for you to celebrate with. Here are a few local favourites to pop for the Holidays.
The View Distraction
The View Winery in Southeast Kelowna has bubbles galore to choose from! Set on one of Kelowna’s heritage orchard properties, the Turton family continues their legacy of growing fruit as well as grapes. Here in their vintage packing house/now winery they turn grapes to wine and fruit to cider. For bubbly, choose from pink, white, and even sparkling wine in a can- perfect to bring on a snowshoe picnic.
2020 Vintage Notes: This pretty in pink bubbly comes from a rosé blend of Pinotage, Pinot Noir and Riesling. Fruit forward, mildly effervescent, and dry, this is a crowd-pleaser.
Summerhill Pyramid Cipes Gabriel
Summerhill Pyramid Winery is Kelowna’s destination for sparkling wine. Multi international award-winning and certified organic to boot, Summerhill has seven different sparkling wines to choose from ranging from high-end to affordable. At the winery, guests can enjoy many experiences including organic food in the restaurant, wine tastings, tours, a gift shop and of course, a look at the real pyramid on site.
Notes: This is a high-end bubbly but hey, this is the time of year to go big right? A gorgeous bottle that features a holiday apropos angel on the label, it is made from 100% organic Chardonnay. Cipes Gabriel is pure and clean with aromas of red apple, vanilla and lemongrass. On the palate, enjoy flavours of pineapple, apricot, almond and biscuit with a beautifully fine mousse finish.
Intrigue Social Bubbly
Intrigue Wines in Lake Country offers visitors a warm welcome and a fun shopping experience on top of great wines. Labels are whimsical and fun making this a serious but approachable winery for guests. When it comes to bubbles, they offer the Social label – fun and perfect for events as well as one called I DO that is of course bang on for wedding celebrations but also great for other occasions too. The best news is that both bubblies come in adorable 200ml bottles perfect to take on a sleigh ride or to leave out for Santa.
2019 Vintage Notes: A frizzante style wine, clean, crisp with a succulent finish. Aromas of baked peach cobbler, cloves, and toasty biscuit. The palate to follow reveals an array of baking spices, crisp apple, and apricot notes.
Volcanic Hills Bubbly Gewurztraminer
Volcanic Hills Winery is in the ‘for reals’ volcanic hills of Mt. Boucherie in West Kelowna. Located just off the main winery drag on the Westside Wine Trail, the Gidda family has long tended this land with the 2nd generation now running the wine show. Here you will also find a restaurant on-site and a loaded gift shop in the tasting room.
2019 Vintage Notes: This dry frizzante style wine showcases uplifting aromas of pear, green apple, lemon, vanilla bean, white flowers, and soft lingering notes of lychee. Mouth-watering flavours of lemon zest, green apples, Anjou pear and cloves lead to a finish that is bright and cleansing.
CedarCreek Home Block Sparkling Brut
CedarCreek Winery has long been a destination for wine lovers. A stunning winery, that now depicts a euro-style stone village sits majestically overlooking Okanagan Lake surrounded by rolling vineyards. The restaurant, Home Block, is one of the city’s best and the wines are amazing. What is also amazing is that the winery and vineyards have been transitioning to organic.
2018 Vintage Notes: Lovely flavours of orange, tangerine, and flowers. The mousse is smooth with a so entry and long lingering finish. A bright, fresh wine perfect for celebrating!
Sperling Blanc de Blancs
Sperling Vineyards in Kelowna is owned and operated by one of Kelowna’s pioneer farming families with an amazing history. Winemaker Ann Sperling is one of Canada’s most celebrated winemakers and a leader in biodynamic farming and winemaking. The winery is also certified organic!
2013 Vintage Notes: The Chardonnay used to make this bubbly comes from a single block from their highest elevation section of the vineyard. Refreshing, lemony and exuberant.
Gray Monk Odyssey White Brut
Gray Monk Estate Winery is one of our pioneer Okanagan wineries. Set overlooking Okanagan Lake in Lake Country, the original owners of the Heiss family quickly become known for their cool-climate whites.
2018 Vintage Notes: Made from a blend of Riesling, Pinot Blanc and Chardonnay Musque grapes. The aroma is fruity and fresh. On the palate, the wine has a full creamy texture with flavours hinting of citrus fruits and apricots. The finish is crisply refreshing.
Meadow Vista Bliss Sparkling Cherry
And now for something totally different and delicious…Meadow Vista Honey Wines in Southeast Kelowna. Here they make wine from the honey harvested from the 100 beehives located on their charming farm.
Notes: Dark, juicy Okanagan cherries were added to give BLISS a beautiful blush colour, notes of cherry, plum and Pinot Noir.
