There are always so many things to do during the summer in Kelowna, as a local I can’t fit them all in. Among the festivals and events are a few free activities to put on your list this summer, it’s a great chance try something new to you, see you out there.

1. Lawn Bowling

Every Wednesday the Kelowna Lawn Bowling Club, located in City Park offers free lessons given by their members. Open to all ages we had a great time, I look forward to my second lesson. Pre-registration is not required, just arrive at 6:30 pm on Wednesday and they’ll help you with the rest.

2. Watch a movie outside under the stars

The Hotel Eldorado screens movies on their rooftop patio and Manteo Resort on their waterfront patio. Manteo is hosting their next movie on August 1st. Watch for some other outdoor movies taking place in parks around Kelowna this August.

3. Walk, bike or roller skate along the waterfront

I love putting on my roller skates and skating along the boardwalk on the water. A great place to skate starts at Waterfront Park then move along the boardwalk through City Park pop under a bridge that then takes you to the bike lane on Abbott Street. It’s the perfect way to get fresh air, see a beautiful part of Kelowna and make new friends along the route.

4. Watch Live Music Outside

Parks Alive! offers free live music in parks all over the city five or six nights a week. Each night is themed for style/genre of music and features both local and visiting musicians. Music in The Park takes place every Friday in West Kelowna at Memorial Park and Live! In Lake Country has music every Saturday in parks around the community. Bring your lawn chair or a blanket to sit on, it’s great entertainment for everyone.

5. Dancing

Dancing in the Park takes place every Wednesday from 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm at Stuart Park in Downtown Kelowna. Each week has a different type of dance you can learn, themes include Zumba, Country, Hip Hop and more. August 30th is Retro Roller Night - another chance to strap on your roller skates!
