Family Day Trip from Kelowna

Friday, June 2, 2017 4:00 PM by Matt Ferguson

We recently jumped in the car and took day-trip to some nearby communities for some family fun! With Vernon's Okanagan Science Centre less than a 50-minute drive from downtown Kelowna, it's an easy journey to make with the family.

Kelowna orchards are in full bloom so the trees are bursting with colour and fragrance. The timing right now creates a 'sweet spot' where the variety of trees in bloom at one time is at its max with colours and flowers that include blossoming cherries, peaches, apples, pears, plums, and many others tree fruits.

BC Family Day Adventures in Kelowna

When I heard that Family Day, celebrated in most of Canada, was also becoming a BC Stat Holiday - I was thrilled!  Another paid day off! And the best part is, the day is dedicated to families. Life gets busy and unfortunately, family fun-times often gets replaced with work and chore-times. So, having a whole day to enjoy with your family is a really welcomed, especially in the middle of winter.

For those who don't think winter is the right time to paddleboard, I might be able to change your mind. It's true that there's ice on the lake, snow on the beach, and the water is super cold, but if pick a nice day and you’re geared up properly – you’ll have an unforgettable winter SUP!  Here is what we did:

For those coming to Kelowna for a winter vacation, or coming home for the holidays to visit friends and family, the ice rink at Stuart Park is a must do and it’s one of my all time favourite Kelowna winter activities. Don’t worry if you didn’t pack your skates, there are rentals right on site.

Beach Days in November? Absolutely.

Friday, November 18, 2016 10:00 AM by Matt Ferguson

A couple of November days last week felt more like spring with the blue skies, and warm temperatures that reached 17°C. It was so warm outside that I was in shorts and a t-shirt and we even kicked off our shoes and walked in the water. We had lunch at Memphis Blues BBQ House then visited a few of our favourite parks and beaches, the kids wrestled in leaf piles and generally just played. We hope to catch a some more awesome weather before the real winter arrives in Kelowna!
