A haze of purple, waves of intoxicating aromas…oh the rapture of standing in a field of lavender!

In Kelowna, Andrea McFadden of the Okanagan Lavender & Herb Farm has created a work of art worthy of Provence through her garden.

Mom's Farmers' Market Rhubarb Pie

A sure sign of spring is when the Kelowna Farmers' and Crafters' Market is selling fresh, local rhubarb! This easy rhubarb pie is absolutely scrumptious and is a unique addition to your regular fruit pie repertoire. The brilliant ruby red colour and tart zing will make this a new family favourite. It's the perfect dessert to celebrate spring and the first growth in your garden.

Asparagus season is here! And I plan to eat it each and every day while it is in season. My favourite way to prepare asparagus is lightly brushed with olive oil, grilled on the barbeque and then topped with Maldon sea salt and lemon zest or balsamic vinegar. Love it in pasta, perfect in a panini with goat cheese, excellent as a pesto or starring in a frittata or omelette. I am just mad about asparagus!

I love everything that the Cipes family does. Lead by Stephen Cipes, the proprietors of this destination winery have built a beautiful empire where they feature the very best of what the Okanagan has to offer while maintaining solid grass roots.

“All you need is love. But a little chocolate now and then doesn't hurt”. - Charles M. Schulz

The big day to celebrate love is just around the corner and I have some local ideas to help woo your darling. Chocolate! Lots and lots of chocolate is the key to my heart and local chocolatiers have had me swooning with their creations lately.

Every holiday feast in the Okanagan should be a celebration of the bounty that we grow and produce here. We have the unique opportunity to eat and drink almost exclusively local so let’s do it! Creating at totally local holiday feast is easy and a one-stop-shop at the Kelowna Farmers' & Crafters' Market.

It's always nice to send Kelowna and Okanagan Valley gifts home, or take local items with you when you travel. And with the abundance available in our area the choices are endless. Here are 13 of my favourite year-round gift ideas that are also perfect for Christmas.

Bean Scene Latte

Kelowna’s Bean Scene Coffee Works has become THE coffee scene in town. Now offering four locations (downtown, Landmark, Capri Mall, and Pandosy Village plus a Big White shop) the Bean Scene team has created its own culture and hub for locals to sip, work, chat and hang--with or without others.
