The Best of Summer in Kelowna | Nic Collar

Friday, September 30, 2016 2:00 PM by Nic Collar

As long hot summer days slip slowly into warm autumn breezes, we reflect on serious summer fun in Kelowna. Whether its hanging on the lake or exploring the best hiking trails, Kelowna truly holds something for every one to enjoy during any season.

Eagle View & Quail Flume Trail

Escape the city life and connect with nature by exploring the Eagle View and Quail Flume trails, located just west of the Quail Ridge neighbourhood. Both trails travel through Ponderosa pine forests and offer fantastic views of both landscapes and wildlife.

The Alcock Family operates their beautiful organic farm in South East Kelowna. Find them at the Kelowna Farmers' & Crafters' Market this Fall on Saturdays to buy organic heritage tomatoes and more!

There’s no doubt that summer in Kelowna is coming to an end. The u-pick farms are transitioning from plums and apples to squash and pumpkin, but luckily in Kelowna farm-to-table experiences are still available. So where should you go for farm to table flavours? I have trialed, tested, and definitely approved these three places.

Okanagan Market Mule

Okanagan Market Mule

This recipe features a locally distilled and award winning vodka. Urban Distilleries' Spirit Bear Vodka is handcrafted in copper stills in downtown Kelowna undergoing triple distillation for smooth taste. Paired with Kelowna apple juice and Okanagan cherries, this cocktail is sure to be delicious!

Hidden Gem | Guisachan Heritage Park

Guisachan Heritage Park

Guisachan Heritage Park is rich with history and character. It’s a beautiful park with lush flower beds surrounding the Guisachan House, originally built in 1891 as a summer home for the Earl and Countess of Aberdeen. Guisachan, or ‘Land of the Firs’ in Gaelic, was the name chosen for their new home.

Bartlett Pear

Pear season has begun and I dare say, I have a recipe that might just become your favorite pie of all time. Being raised in an orchard family with wonderful bakers, we have family fruit dessert dishes galore to choose from.
