Itinerary: Gardens, Heritage & Cultural

Kelowna, known as a ‘Community in Bloom,” is full of color from April to October.

For several years, Kelowna has consistently garnered international acclaim for its outdoor beauty. In 1988, Kelowna won the Communities in Bloom competition, and in 2000 took home a first-place finish at the Communities in Bloom International Challenge team competition in partnership with the city of Solihull, England. In December of 2001, Kelowna participated in the Nations in Bloom worldwide competition, held in Shenzhen, China, where the Kelowna was the gold medallist and placed second in our population category.

Elysium Garden Nursery
Enjoy acres of display gardens in an orchard setting. These beautiful organic gardens are nestled on a hillside with an unobstructed view of the valley.  Wander through the garden on your own or take a tour with the gardens creator and learn about the varieties of perennials, roses, vines, and ornamental grasses, shrubs and trees.  Be sure not to miss all the unique features of the gardens: Formal European Style Borders, Herb Garden, Shade Garden, Kitchen and Cut-Flower Garden, Xeriscape Garden, Rockery, and Japanese Garden.

Okanagan Lavender Herb Farm
The farm boasts a collection of over 60 varieties of lavender and an informative self guided walking tour.  The lavender is sold through the small on-site country store and exclusive retail boutiques across Canada.  The farm offers programs for groups such as learning the art of lavender wand or wreath making and picnics featuring lavender lemonade and scones.

Guisachan Heritage Park and Cameron Gardens
Historic site, gardens, restaurant & “Milkshed” gift shop.

Enjoy lunch in the home built by Lord and Lady Aberdeen in 1891 and wander through the beautifully manicured perennial gardens.

Father Pandosy Mission
Oblate missionary, Father Pandosy established the first non-Native settlement in the Okanagan Valley in 1860.  The site is open from dawn to dusk year-round and visitors can wander the four-acre property and tour of the original buildings.

CedarCreek Winery
Named the Canada’s winery of the year in 2003 this winery features immaculate gardens and state-of-the-art facilities overlooking Okanagan Lake.  Family owned and operated, CedarCreek is committed to producing 100% Okanagan wines from premium quality varietal grapes.

Kelowna’s Cultural District
Once the center of Kelowna’s fruit packing industry, this six-block area has been revitalized into a creative hub of theatres, galleries and museums.  Be sure to visit the BC Orchard Industry Museum, the Wine Museum, the Kelowna Art Gallery, the Kelowna Museum, the Rotary Centre for the Arts, and Kasugai Gardens.  Arrange for a guided tour of the area or let your clients explore on their own.  This area is a perfect place to finish any day.  There are a number of fine dining restaurants to choose from as well as clubs and pubs that offer live entertainment.  In the summer months our “Parks Alive” program provides free live entertainment in a number of city parks.
