Day 1:
Welcome to Kelowna. After your short flight into Kelowna International Airport, your shuttle transportation will pick you up and transfer you to the historic Hotel Eldorado where lunch will be lakeside. The “El” has blue blood in her veins and Countess Bubna Litite of Austria, the original proprietor of the “El”, would definitely approve of the scrumptious meals served on the boardwalk overlooking Okanagan Lake. After savouring some Okanagan wine, local cuisine and fresh lake air, you will be transferred to your hotel where you can check in, and prepare for your culinary adventure in Kelowna.
This afternoon sit back and relax as you are transported to two of the Okanagan Valley’s most magnificent wineries. First, we will stop at Quails’ Gate Family Estate. Internationally recognized as a top producer of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, their tours are also regarded as one of the most educational and dynamic in the Valley. Starting in the vineyard you will follow the journey of the grape from vine to barrel to bottle and see how beautiful vines make beautiful wine. Your tour concludes in the new Hospitality Centre where, true to its name, you will be welcomed to sit by the rock fire, take in the panoramic view of Okanagan Lake and taste some of the wonderful wines that Mother Nature and Quails’ Gate have produced.
Leaving behind the lakeside winery, venture up the hill, past the fortress gate and into the refuge that is Mission Hill Family Estate. Here your evening will be spent at the Chef’s Table where you will watch, learn and sample in an interactive culinary experience. Chef Michael Allemeier, Winery Chef and one of the hosts of the Food Network's "Cook Like a Chef" leads you through each course, expertly paired with a glad of Mission Hill wine. Their state-of-the-art demonstration kitchen includes two flat screen televisions that follow the Chef at work, and an audio system that ensures you hear each ingredient sizzle and burst with flavour.
Day 2:
Today’s journey begins with a light breakfast before you head out for the day to discover some of the key ingredients used to create Okanagan delicacies in the area’s many restaurants. The first stop is Carmelis Goat Cheese Artisan. Carmelis is a family owned boutique dairy, which produces nineteen different varieties of goat cheese including their own unique version of blue cheese, “Goatgonzola”. The cheeses are produced on a small scale which enables them to closely monitor each and every cheese while placing an emphasis on the place’s design and its integration into nature, the landscape around them, and the quality of the environment.
After a brief tour and cheese sampling, the shuttle will depart for the Okanagan Lavender Herb Farm. Here you can stroll through the fragrant fields of 18 different varieties of lavender. As the relaxing scent washes over you, you stop to sip a glass of wine and taste the distinct flavors of lavender in the selection of tasty morsels laid out for you.
The shuttle whisks you off once again to Kelowna Land & Orchard where you are seated amongst the fruit trees, fragrant with blossoms in the spring and laden with apples in the fall. Here the chefs of Okanagan’s Finest Foods prepare your gourmet lunch during a live cooking demonstration that creates an intimate relationship between the chefs, the food and you. Watch them skillfully and creatively combine fresh local ingredients into an exceptional meal that will be sure to delight all your senses. After lunch enjoy a stroll around the orchard as you sip a glass of iced apple cider from the on-site Raven Ridge Cidery.
Once again you are transported back to you hotel where you can freshen up and take a stroll before enjoying one of the epicurean delights at the four-diamond, award-winning Fresco Restaurant & Lounge. Try their signature, ice-wine martini or signature items such as rabbit pate or roasted Vancouver Island crab soup. Whatever dish you decide on, it will always encapsulate Chef’ Rod Butter’s trademark dishes that are fresh, exciting and memorable.
Day 3:
This morning, wake early, have a light breakfast and head out for a morning walk or cycle up Knox Mountain. This dedicated park land provides a myriad of nature trails, allowing you to experience some of Kelowna’s natural inhabitants up close and personal. Several view points throughout the park beckon you to stop and appreciate the spectacular vistas of the City of Kelowna and Okanagan Lake.
Return rejuvenated and refreshed to start the final day of our gastronomical adventure.
Board your shuttle and transfer to CedarCreek Estate Winery. Replacing their apple orchard with grape vines, Cedar Creek has consistently garnered attention for their wines and has been awarded Wine Access Magazine’s Winery of the Year twice. After a brief tour of their facility, be seated in the open-air Vineyard Terrace Restaurant that wraps around the wine shop and overlooks the glistening lake and sprawling vineyards. Enjoy samples of award-winning CedarCreek wines and Chef Couper’s seasonal dishes and regional cuisine.
After your leisurely lunch, transfer to Kelowna’s downtown Cultural District to explore some of the quaint galleries and museums in the six-block radius. Shop in the gallery stores, watch an artist create their masterpiece or have a cappuccino or gelato in one of the coffee shops in the area. The afternoon is yours to discover all the hidden delights of Kelowna. This evening you’ll be having an early dinner at Waterfront Wines, a funky, urban wine bar. With a stylish wine bar and intimate stainless-steel booths for enjoying the menu offerings, Waterfront Wines has become a popular place for casual but sophisticated dining.
After dinner, take a stroll along the boardwalk to the Passenger Ship Wharf where you will find The Boardroom.
